Apple's new software update allows it to provide turn-by-turn navigational instructions, just like other GPS systems. A new update for the iPhone, the iPhone OS 3.0, will finally allow the highly popular device to provide turn-by-turn navigational instructions, among other new features. Owners of the iPhone can finally rely on the phone to provide them with directions, instead of having to spend extra money on GPS gadgets. Unfortunately, Google Mobile Maps' popular system will not be available for developers to base their system on, and they will have to come up with their own map data. Recently launched, registered developers of navigation software can download the update immediately, while iPhone customers can download it for free in the middle of this year.
